Gundam Challenge
One challenge. Endless possibilities.
The Principality of G Gundam Challenge is a recurring modelling competition designed to encourage creativity, problem-solving and technical skill through a shared challenge.
Unlike the Gundam Gallery, where builders are free to showcase any completed project, the Gundam Challenge gives every participant the same brief. How that brief is interpreted is entirely up to you.
Every Challenge is different. One event may provide a mystery kit, another may focus on a particular grade, theme, technique or creative restriction. No two Challenges will be exactly the same, but every Challenge is built around the same philosophy:
Creativity thrives within constraints.
Every participant starts with the same foundation, but no two finished builds should look alike. The goal is not simply to build the most complex model—it is to demonstrate thoughtful design, technical execution and a clear creative vision.

- Review the event-specific rules and challenge brief.
- Complete your build within the published submission period.
- Submit your completed entry before the deadline.
- Your build will be displayed and reviewed by our judging panel.
- Prize winners will be announced following judging.

Principality of G Mystery Gundam Challenge – August 2026
Think you've got what it takes to turn a mystery kit into something incredible?
The Principality of G Mystery Gundam Challenge is your chance to put your creativity, modelling skills and imagination to the test. Every entrant receives the same mystery High Grade (HG) Gundam kit, but what you create is entirely up to you.
Whether you're a first-time builder or an experienced modeller, this challenge is designed to celebrate creativity, craftsmanship and the enjoyment of the hobby.

Entry Fee: $30 (includes your mystery HG Gundam kit)
Kit Collection Opens: Friday 14 August
Submission Deadline: Anytime from Friday 31 August to Friday 4 September

The Challenge
Every participant receives exactly the same mystery High Grade (HG) Gundam kit.
From there, the possibilities are endless.
You may:
- Build it straight out of the box.
- Paint it.
- Weather it.
- Customise it.
- Kitbash it.
The only requirement is that the mystery kit remains the primary focus of your finished entry. The silhouette must stay the same, meaning that you can still identify the kit but you have made it your own by customising it. EXAMPLE: Char's Zaku is a 'zaku' but people recognise it as being Char's custom (his signature look).
There is no "correct" way to approach the challenge. A simple, beautifully executed build can be just as impressive as a heavily customised masterpiece.
Challenge Rules
- Every entry must use the supplied mystery Gundam kit as the foundation of the build.
- Only one official entry is permitted per participant.
- Additional parts, accessories and kitbash components from other kits may be used.
- Painting is optional.
- Decals, weathering and finishing techniques are optional.
- The majority of the finished model must consist of the supplied mystery kit.
- Entries must be your own original work created specifically for this challenge.
- Entries must remain suitable for a family-friendly environment.
- Entries must be submitted before the published submission deadline.
- Builders are responsible for transporting their entries safely.
- Entries may remain on display at Principality of G following judging.
- By entering, participants give permission for Principality of G to photograph and share images of their entry for promotional purposes.
- The judges' decision is final.
Judging Criteria
Each category is scored independently out of 10 points, for a total possible score of 40 points.
A high score in one category does not guarantee a high score in another.
For example:
- An incredible paint job cannot compensate for poor presentation.
- A clean build with poor cohesion will not score as highly as one with a clear overall vision.
- A simple straight build can score just as highly as a heavily customised build if it is completed to an exceptional standard.
1. Creativity & Cohesion (10 Points)
Does the finished model feel like a complete, unified and thoughtfully designed piece?
Judges will consider:
- Whether colours, modifications and details work well together.
- Whether the model has a clear visual direction.
- Whether the design feels balanced rather than cluttered or unfinished.
- Whether each design choice supports the overall look of the model.
- Creative interpretation of the supplied kit.
- Overall visual impact.
A simple but cohesive build can score just as highly as a complex custom build.
2. Technical Skill (10 Points)
How well has the model been built?
Judges will consider:
- Clean nub removal.
- Part alignment.
- Seam line treatment.
- Scribing and added detail.
- Quality of kitbashing (where applicable).
- Overall craftsmanship.
- Attention to detail.
Technical skill is judged on quality, not complexity. A perfectly executed straight build can score as highly as an advanced custom build.
3. Paintwork & Finish (10 Points)
How well has the model been finished?
Judges will consider:
- Paint application.
- Colour consistency.
- Panel lining.
- Decal application.
- Weathering and finishing effects.
- Topcoat and final presentation of surfaces.
Painting is optional. Builders are judged on the quality of the finish they choose to present.
4. Presentation & Posing (10 Points)
How effectively is the completed model presented?
Judges will consider:
- Choice of pose.
- Stability of the display.
- Display base(where used).
- Composition.
- Overall visual impact.
- How effectively the presentation enhances the finished model
- A simple display can score highly if it complements the model and presents it effectively.
Presenting Your Entry
When submitting your build, please include:
- Your name.
- Title of your build (optional).
- A short description of your concept or inspiration (optional).
- Your social media handle (if applicable).
Prizes
There are prizes up for grabs for the top three entries!
- 🥇 1st Place: $100 Principality of G Gift Voucher
- 🥈 2nd Place: $50 Principality of G Gift Voucher
- 🥉 3rd Place: $25 Principality of G Gift Voucher
Our judges will score every entry using the published judging criteria, with the three highest-scoring builds taking home the prizes. More importantly, this challenge is about pushing your creativity, developing your modelling skills and celebrating what makes the Gundam community so great.

The current event details—including the challenge brief, eligible kits, modification rules, important dates, submission requirements and prizes—will always be published here before registrations open.
This means every Challenge remains fresh, giving builders new opportunities to explore different techniques, themes and creative ideas.
The best Challenge builds aren't necessarily the most complicated—they're the ones that tell a clear story.
If someone can look at your build and say, "That's unmistakably the same mobile suit... but it's completely your take on it. If I saw this in battle, I can tell that its you own customised suit." then you've captured the spirit of the Gundam Challenge.
