Gundam Challenge

One challenge. Endless possibilities.

The Principality of G Gundam Challenge is a recurring modelling competition designed to encourage creativity, problem-solving and technical skill through a shared challenge.

Unlike the Gundam Gallery, where builders are free to showcase any completed project, the Gundam Challenge gives every participant the same brief. How that brief is interpreted is entirely up to you.

Every Challenge is different. One event may provide a mystery kit, another may focus on a particular grade, theme, technique or creative restriction. No two Challenges will be exactly the same, but every Challenge is built around the same philosophy:

Creativity thrives within constraints.

Every participant starts with the same foundation, but no two finished builds should look alike. The goal is not simply to build the most complex model—it is to demonstrate thoughtful design, technical execution and a clear creative vision.

How It Works

  1. Register for the current Gundam Challenge.
  2. Review the event-specific rules and challenge brief.
  3. Complete your build within the published submission period.
  4. Submit your completed entry before the deadline.
  5. Your build will be displayed and reviewed by our judging panel.
  6. Prize winners will be announced following judging.

Current Challenge

Every Gundam Challenge has its own unique rules.

The current event details—including the challenge brief, eligible kits, modification rules, important dates, submission requirements and prizes—will always be published here before registrations open.

This means every Challenge remains fresh, giving builders new opportunities to explore different techniques, themes and creative ideas.

General Rules

  • Each registration permits one Challenge entry unless otherwise stated.
  • Entries must comply with the published rules for that specific Challenge.
  • Entries must be submitted by the advertised deadline.
  • Late submissions may not be accepted.
  • Builds must be suitable for public display.
  • Principality of G will take reasonable care of submitted entries while on display; however, entries remain the responsibility of the participant.
  • By entering, participants agree that photographs and videos of their build may be used by Principality of G for promotional and social media purposes.

Judging & Awards

Although every Challenge is unique, our judging philosophy remains consistent.

Cohesion & Vision

Does every aspect of the build support a clear and unified concept?

Creativity & Interpretation

How effectively has the builder interpreted the challenge brief? Thoughtful ideas and clever design decisions are valued just as highly as extensive modifications.

Paintwork & Finish

The quality and consistency of painting, weathering, decals, shading, colour separation and finishing techniques.

Build & Modification Quality

The technical execution of the build, including assembly, modifications, scratch building, scribing, kitbashing and overall craftsmanship.

Posing & Presentation

The overall visual impact of the completed build, including posing, balance, composition and presentation.

Attention to Detail

The finishing touches that reward closer inspection and demonstrate care, refinement and craftsmanship.

Notes on Judging

  • Entries are assessed as a whole rather than by strict numerical scoring.
  • No single category automatically outweighs another.
  • Judges consider both the published judging criteria and the objectives of the current Challenge.
  • Judging is conducted by a panel to provide multiple perspectives and minimise individual bias.
  • All judging decisions are final.

Previous Challenges

Each Gundam Challenge explores a different idea.

Our inaugural Challenge provided every participant with the same mystery High Grade kit. The results demonstrated just how differently the same mobile suit could be interpreted when builders were given the same starting point.

Future Challenges will continue to introduce new themes, creative restrictions and exciting opportunities to test your modelling skills.

The best Challenge builds aren't necessarily the most complicated—they're the ones that tell a clear story.

If someone can look at your build and say, "That's unmistakably the same mobile suit... but it's completely your take on it," then you've captured the spirit of the Gundam Challenge.
